Differentiated instruction

An instructional approach or philosophy that emphasizes adjusting various aspects of a learning experience (from content to environment) to accommodate learners’ differences.

Direct instruction

An instructional approach in which the teacher presents information to learners; often considered a “teacher-centered” approach.

Guided (or indirect) instruction

An instructional approach in which the teacher acts as a facilitator of learning.

Instructional stance

The role a teacher takes during a learning experience. These are typically teacher, mentor, facilitator, and/or coach.
