IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR ALL STUDENTS
----------
Hurricane Katrina Book DrivePlease support our HURRICANE KATRINA BOOK DRIVE
Sponsored by SGAThe HGSE Student Government Association invites you to donate new or gently used books to Books From the Heart® Book Drive. Visit the pole in the middle of Conroy Commons to pick up a book title and purchase that book to donate. Or, choose your own title to donate. You may drop books in our drop box in Conroy Commons or in Gutman Lobby through December 21, 2005.
Books from the Heart finds books that are not being used and gets them to where they are needed most…into the hands of poor children and onto the empty shelves of school libraries. Books from the Heart is a program of the Heart of America Foundation, an organization that promotes character education, literacy, and service learning. The organization is a national, nonsectarian, non-partisan, nonprofit, humanitarian organization. Books from the Heart has recently launched a special program, Operation Buddy Pack, to provide books to children displaced by Hurricane Katrina and to fill libraries in hurricane-afflicted areas. Contact SGA with any additional questions: sga@gse.harvard.edu

Trivia Challenge ResultsThe Smartest Program is :
IEP ;
Who came from behind on the last few questions to just catch EPM, with MBA and L+L close behind and finishing fast. The double points allocated on the "Name that tune" round certainly helped IEP's cause, whilst EPM were unlucky after leading all night.
Strangely, nobody knew all of the 5 biggest selling female recording artists of all time, but almost everyone knew which 5 fruits provide the most valuable worldwide crops annually.
The goods news a rematch is being organised at a bigger venue to provide EPM a shot at some revenge and to let the other teams bolster their ranks.
Probably the 2nd week of February, on a Friday night. The Bridge Team will send out all the info once we have confirmed the date and time.
Happy Holidays
----------
HGSE Jeopardy champion!Congratulations to HGSE doctoral student Rich Reddick for winning the university-wide Jeopardy tournament on December 1, sponsored by the Harvard Graduate Council. Other grad school contingents, including those from the business school and the law school, proved to be no match for Rich, who has been a winner on the actual television game show. Way to go, Rich!

EndNote BasicsEndNote is a software program for storing and managing bibliographic references. With it, you can create your own database of references, including ones you import from library catalogs and online databases. These can include links to full text when available. Use EndNote to sort, search, and format references, and to insert them into Word documents to create in-text citations and reference lists automatically. Note: Students usually purchase EndNote to work on long-term research projects, such as a dissertation or comprehensive literature review.
At the end of this workshop, you will be able to create an EndNote library and add records to it. You'll be able to search and sort those references and use EndNote's Cite While You Write feature to insert them into a Word document. You'll know how to set preferences, what EndNote filters and connection files are, how to find and install these for HOLLIS Catalog, and how to import/export references from Harvard's e-resources into EndNote.
Monday, December 12th, 10:00am - 11:30am
Location: Gutman 302
All sessions are 1 1/2 hours
No sign-up necessary
Scheduling Conflict? Questions? Contact the Research Services Desk, 617-495-3421, reference@gse.harvard.edu----------
Finding Books: HOLLIS Catalog WorkshopHOLLIS Catalog contains information on materials in all of Harvard's 90+ libraries - over 15 million books, journals, manuscripts, government documents, microforms, scores, recordings, visual materials, and data files. Learn to search this huge database efficiently; you'll save yourself time and avoid frustration. HOLLIS is a fundamental tool for doing graduate-level research.
At the end of this workshop, you will be able to construct author, title, and topic searches. You'll be able to tell if something you want is available in a specific library, how to find that library, its hours, and whether there are any restrictions on the use of the item you want. You will know how to check your personal HOLLIS account to see what you've got checked out, and renew items.
Friday, December 16th, 10:00am - 11:00am
